Vale Bill Hunter

On 26th May 2011 I put a motion to the NSW Legislative Council to recognise Bill Hunter’s contribution to the arts for over five decades. I wanted us all to celebrate an Australian cultural icon that had given so much to the profile of Australian Arts.

The motion read;

1. That this House notes the passing on 21 May 2011 of Bill Hunter at the age of 71.

2.  That this House notes Bill Hunter’s:

 (a) significant contribution to Australian film and television with a career spanning 50 years and 100 film and television productions,

(b) dedication to supporting Australian film and cinema,

(c) roles in Australia’s most iconic films including in Gallipoli (1981), Strictly Ballroom (1992), Muriel’s Wedding (1994) and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), and

(d) achievements in receiving awards including the Australian Movie Star of the Year (1994), Variety Club Award for Services to the Film Industry (1995) and Honorary Membership of the Australian Cinematographer’s Society (1996).
